How to price things for a yard sale
Most yard sale shoppers expect to pay a quarter to a third of what an item cost new, and less for anything well used. Start a little higher on the morning of the sale, when the serious buyers arrive, and plan to drop prices after lunch. Round numbers are easier for everyone: $1, $5 and $10 tags move faster than $3.75.
Price every item before the first car pulls up. A table without tags makes people ask about each piece, and many won't. A printed tag with the price on top answers the first question at a glance; the QR code answers the rest.
What the QR code adds
Bigger items need more than a price: the size of a crib, whether the lawn mower starts, the model of a TV. Put those details on the item's page and the tag stays readable. Shoppers scan it with their phone camera — no app — and see the photos and notes you added.
Bundling and "make an offer"
Group small things into bundles with one tag: "Board games, 3 for $5" or "Kids' books, $0.50 each or $10 for the box". Bundles clear tables faster and save you making dozens of tiny labels.
Expect haggling and decide your lowest price in advance. Writing "or best offer" next to the price on the item's page tells buyers you're open to it, so they ask instead of walking away. For furniture and electronics, a photo of the item working on the page builds trust.
Printing tips
The 2×1" format fits many tags on one sheet of Letter or A4. Sheet labels peel and stick to boxes and plastic; on fabric, print on cardstock and pin or tie the tag on. Keep a few blank tags and a marker for last-minute price drops.
After the sale
Leftovers don't have to go back in the garage. Group what didn't sell, lower the prices and run a second morning, or move the best pieces to a local marketplace listing — the photos you added for the QR page are already taken. If you sell regularly at flea markets, save your tags to a free account: you can mark items sold, change prices and reprint without typing everything again.
